How one makes a movie out of a board game is anyone's guess. Some, sure – Payday as an urban comedy, Mousetrap as a kid's adventure. But Monopoly? Moving pieces around a board to buy real estate? Somebody thinks it's a good idea though, because Corpse Bride and Monster House scribe Pamela Pettner is supposedly signed on for an untitled project based on the game, with none other than Sir Ridley Scott producing and directing. Personally, I can smell a studio executive desperate to hold onto his job who woke up in the middle of the night terrified because that they're going to run out of comic book superheroes soon, suddenly realising board games were the only entertainment sector with pre-market recognition he could think of. I also looked at the new Star Trek trailer, and it looks like J J Abrams is really going to use every one of the forty feet of the screen to unleash a thing of great spectacle. There's also talk of bringing all the old action stars out of retirement and pitting them head to head against the new generation. That's right, Sly's talking up a movie with himself, Jason Statham, Jet Li and old sparring partner Dolph Lundgren. What could be cooler? Speaking of Dolph, the 1987 Masters of the Universe movie is probably one of many he wants to wipe from his back catalogue, but that isn't stopping Warner Bros and Mr Joel 'there is no bar' Silver from getting a 2011 redux off the ground.
