Asteroid

A two-part TV series, the same story as Armageddon and their homages and facsimiles. The story is centred around a Texas scientist and mother (Sciorra) and local FEMA director (Biehn). Nothing out of the ordinary in effects by virtue of its TV studio budget, it concentrated on the story and build-up of tension, a bit of a letdown for diehard effects fans just watching for scenes of destruction.

All the money shots of Dallas being destroyed are in the first ten minutes of the second instalment. The first one deals with the realisation and panic and leaves off just as the asteroid fragments are bearing down on Earth, the second with the post-strike survival. A token kid and grandfather give it 'heart'.
