The Cannonball Run

Year: 1981
Director: Hal Needham
Cast: Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLuise, Roger Moore, Farrah Fawcett, Jamie Farr, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Jackie Chan, Peter Fonda, Bianca Jagger, Valerie Perrine
Burt Reynolds spent most of the 70s and 80s inhabiting the sort of films he himself portrayed in his persona; a modern urban cowboy, a Marlboro man who moved and talked. The highways were his wild west, Trans-Ams and other fast, sexy cars were his steeds. He was funny, self depreciating, sexy, and as American as all hell.

Bringing the Hollywood Rat Pack together in a host of secondary characters and cameos, it tells the story of America's most famous illegal cross country car race, peopling it with iconic characters and following their antics as they employ lies, deceit, cheating, seduction and a variety of disguises to take out the prize.

Endlessly quotable and great fun, full of fast driving and laughs. Very much the product of Hal Needham's directorial talents, having given us the other well-known Burt Reynolds road movies.
