When you hear what this film is about you probably won't be the least interested, thinking it's somewhere between a porno, a snuff film and one of filthy movies from the video nasty era that made you want a shower after watching them.

For the uninitiated, a donkey punch is where a man brutally strikes the back of a woman's head at the point of orgasm during rear-entry anal sex - the spontaneous, involuntary constriction of her sphincter supposedly intensifying his climax.

Given the premise and the Saw -like poster art, you might give this movie a wide berth, but it's actually worth your time for the filmmaking quality. Like 2006's Cashback, everything from the art direction to the cinematography is top-notch, with performances by some distinctive leads to match.

It's also very accomplished in the realistic approach. Despite the fact that only one member of the group ends up alive, its believable throughout – not once descending to one-woman army or slasher-style claptrap.

A group of Brit girls are on holidays in Spain when they meet a group of lads who claim to be working on a luxury yacht and invite the in-heat quartet to the yacht for an afternoon of partying, drugs and sex. When the shocking titular event happens, the boys want to dispose of the body and save all their skins from the authorities, telling everyone it was a swimming accident.

The surviving girls want none of it and it looks like it's going to be a battle of the sexes smash-up. But allegiances between the boys soon falter as well, and we're left with a realistic cat and mouse game as the bodies and blood pile up in Grand Guignol cause and effect fashion.
