Jane Austen’s Mafia

Year: 1998
Production Co: Tapestry Films
Director: Jim Abrahams
Writer: Jim Abrahams
Cast: Jay Mohr, Lloyd Bridges, Christina Applegate, Olympia Dukakis
Long before the Wayans and their unholy progeny of Friedberg and Seltzer killed any credibility left in the spoof genre, Airplane alumnus Jim Abrahams gave us this low key entry that made a quiet splash.

Ripping off the mafia and mob movie clichés, it's based mostly on Casino as Jay Mohr tries to keep his crime family intact, but of course there are a million references from The Godfather to Scarface and more.

Not terribly memorable after this long, but much funnier than the dross that passes for the genre nowadays.
