Monsignor

Year: 1982
Production Co: Frank Yablans presentations
Studio: 20th Century Fox
Director: Frank Perry
Cast: Christopher Reeve, Genevieve Bujold, Joe Pantoliano
From the most moral, upstanding citizen in American folklore to a corrupt, womanising clergyman. Christopher Reeve must have been feeling the pinch of typecasting.

After proving himself on the battlefields of Italy during the Second World War, a young priest (Reeve) is assigned to a senior treasury position in The Vatican.

He proceeds to set up an illegal trading contraband ring with an American army officer, rising through the ranks of the Vatican's financial hierarchy before falling in love with a French nun and seeing himself for what he's become.

An okay story, but (to what must have been Reeve's endless curse) not Superman.
