My Blue Heaven

Year: 1990
Studio: Warner Bros
Director: Herbert Ross
Producer: Herbert Ross
Writer: Nora Ephron
Cast: Steve Martin, Rick Moranis, Joan Cusack
I'm not sure if this movie was supposed to be a black comedy rather than the sort of out and out gag-fest you'd expect with Steve Martin as a mobster trying to blend into suburban society, but it wasn't in the least funny.

It's a fish out of water comedy with badly miscast fish and no comedy. For some reason Martin should be able to eat up the role of an Italian wise guy in his sleep, but he delivers it like it's his first rehearsal and he's still trying to find the voice and mannerisms of the character.

Plus, Rick Moranis just doesn't gel as an FBI agent. Maybe the memory of Lewis the accountant from Ghostbusters was too recent, but it needed a strait laced, buttoned down type, not a weedy nerd type.
