Mystic Pizza

Year: 1988
Production Co: Samuel Goldwyn Company
Director: Donald Petrie
Cast: Julia Roberts, Annabeth Gish, Lili Taylor, Vincent D'Onofrio
This movie is famous for little more than bringing Julia Roberts to the world stage - her next movie was the romantic comedy phenomenon of the 90s, Pretty Woman.

But it's actually a nice little small town drama about a family of sisters who run a pizza restaurant and their lives, loves, dreams and disappointments.

It's honest, not too saccharine, not too crushing, and sweet and with some good support performances. Long before Roberts gained a reputation as a major Hollywood diva, she was an effective part of this ensemble, and co-star Annabeth Gish deserved to go as far, but has never broken the recognition ceiling since.
