National Security

Year: 2003
Studio: Columbia
Director: Dennis Dugan
Cast: Martin Lawrence, Steve Zahn, Colm Feore, Eric Roberts
Martin Lawrence repeats oft-trod territory (again), in another cop/buddy action comedy and mostly a cheap Bad Boys clone. As he cashes in on his trademark shtick, you hope for comic redemption from Steve Zahn, who's more than proven his comedy chops, but who disappoints almost as much with an indistinct and weak second fiddle to Lawrence's idiocy.

A former cop and an opportunistic security guard (with a chip on his shoulder about being black - rendering much of his humour overtly racist to an unfunny degree) find themselves partners in a generic action movie crime mystery, have to work together and inevitably end up friends.

A handful of original gags, but little else.
