Filmism.net Dispatch March 10, 2008
I saw Rambo through the week and right before it was the new Indiana Jones trailer. What struck me was the same thing about the two former action/adventure stars; how old and tired they looked. Is Indy going to be as ridiculous as Stallone's one-two punch for glory (with Rocky Balboa)? You wouldn't think so with a director like Spielberg in the chair, but Ford looks like he'd rather be anywhere else.
In the most potentially exciting but nerve-wracking news lately is the announcement that Warner Bros are doing a live action Akira. The film that launched a movement was a watershed and could be either a searing dystopic vision like Blade Runner or a monumental pile of flab like Van Helsing.
Since I reported last, the writer's strike has ended and HD-DVD has bit the dust, making everyone wish they could go back in time 12 months and buy shares in Blu-ray. Also in Hobbit news, Tolkein's estate are now doing a Jackson and suing New Line over money they say they're owed and are stonewalling about the story Guillermo Del Toro's in line to direct.
