I thought the news that Pixar is doing a film about the 1906 San Francisco earthquake was interesting. Not the film itself, which sound like it could be a Michael Bay smash 'em up, but the fact that it'll be the first live action movie from the darlings of the animation world.

Also a sad farewell to Arthur C Clarke, who transformed popular science and the possibilities it presented (no matter what you think about the last scene in 2001, and Anthony Minghella.
