Remake news ahoy – normally I'm not too interested except that announcements have come down the pipeline for the resurrection of two of my favourites.

The Weinsteins are going to do a Fraggle Rock movie - complete with Gobo, Wembely, Boober, Mokey and Red, the live action human characters and all the others I absolutely loved when I was about 13. I can't see how they could get that wrong, with Jim Henson's children Brian and Lisa – who nowadays head up Jim Henson Productions – in the driver's seat.

And MGM has issued talk of redoing one of my favourite movies ever, Robocop . If they make the mistake of thinking it's just an action movie, it'll be an easily forgotten knock-off for the Xbox generation. If they maintain the razor sharp subtext of social commentary Verhoeven snuck past dumb American studios and distributors, it'll be cinematic gold.
