Filmism.net Dispatch January 3, 2010
I mentioned a few weeks back that the Avatar phenomenon sweeping the world might drop off considerably in the second week when word got around how 'second generation' the story was. Audiences have proven me decidedly wrong, the juggernaut continuing into (now the) third week and breaking the second week record of the previous titleholder, The Dark Knight.
In fact given the box office, Cameron's comments about a trilogy of movies about Jake and the Na'vi are getting easier to believe.
Still with man of the moment Sam Worthington, he's been murmured about (along with Ryan Reynolds) in the big remake of Flash Gordon to be helmed by (shudder in horror with me now) Breck Sahara Eisner. And yes, you have seen that name before - proving my claim last week that nepotism was alive and well in the movie business, he's the son of former Disney head honcho Michael Eisner.
I also lied to you about something else months back when I reported with excitement that Ivan Reitman was returning to helm Ghostbusters 3. Whether I misinterpreted the news or it was just another eddy from the whirlpool of Ghostbusters rumours, neither Reitman nor the former Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) are confirmed, but Ramis did say something about a mid-year 2011 release date recently.
I also strongly urge you to look at the new Inception trailer, which gave me shivers.
