2001: A Space Odyssey

Year: 1968
Studio: MGM
Director: Stanley Kubrick
Producer: Stanley Kubrick
Writer: Arthur C Clarke/Stanley Kubrick

All vision, no story. It's beautifully photographed as its huge reputation promises, but consists of two apparently unrelated episodes, neither of which have a discernible plot or a visible, much less satisfying, conclusion.

It's apparently about long-gone extraterrestrials having seeded human life on Earth - if I hadn't known that before watching I never would have worked it out.The iconic presences of HAL 9000, the early development of the human race and the black monolith offer strong imagery but no real bearing on the proceedings.

If you know what it's about, you're much smarter than me.
