Arachnophobia

Year: 1990
Director: Frank Marshall
Producer: Steven Spielberg
Cast: Jeff Daniels, John Goodman, Julian Sands
An adventure/comedy straight from the G/PG rated Spielberg/Dante/Kennedy/Marshall stable of the late 80s and early 90s through and through - from the plot and effects to the cast itself of Daniels and Goodman.

Only mildly successful as a movie but with some standout effects, it tells the story of a young family led by doctor Jeff Daniels who arrives in small town USA to take over the practise of the retiring GP.

Their arrival coincides with that of a rare and extremely venomous spider from the South American jungle who mates with the local spider population and starts causing havoc with its minions.

It's left up to Daniels and Terminator-like pest controller Goodman to save the day.

Impressive spider training resulted in the battle scenes, but they don't make a movie on their own. If it's a harking back to the glory days of monster movies of the 1950's you want, watch Eight Legged Freaks instead
