The Arrival

Year: 1996
Director: David Twohy
Cast: Charlie Sheen, Teri Polo, Ron Silver, Richard Schiff
I remember being most excited about this movie because it was about an alien invasion, and the biggest alien invasion movie of all was coming out soon after (Independence Day), so it felt like something of a precursor to it.

Charlie Sheen is an astronomer who detects an alien signal, and gets closer to a conspiracy covering up the alien presence already on Earth, where they're in the midst of their diabolical plans.

The trail leads him to Mexico where the sweaty heat is brought out beautifully in the cinematography, and apart from the money shot of the giant satellite dish falling over, I can't remember much else.

Interesting as an early effort of David Twohy's, who went on to the blistering Pitch Black.
