Best In Show

Christopher Guest's latest mockumentary is about fanatical dog owners and the Philadelphia dog show they frequent every year with the zeal of a religious following. Done properly, without a hint of having been set up (as Drop Dead Gorgeous was), the genre makes for priceless comedy. One or two of those cracks show here, but all in all bitchy, biting and sharp enough to be classically funny.

The in-gags and running jokes are fantastic, such as the Flecks' continually running into Cookie's old boyfriends, all of whom reminisce lecherously about her 'talents'. Fantastic characterisations that plug unexpected stereotypes mercilessly and craftily without tarring fanatical dog owners all with the same brush.
