The Bounty

Year: 1984
Director: Roger Donaldson
Cast: Anthony Hopkins, Mel Gibson, Laurence Olivier, Daniel Day Lewis, Liam Neeson
Two of today's biggest movie heavyweights lend a classy air to the tale of the famous mutiny that bought the crew of the British navy ship undone in more ways than one.

Both Gibson as Christian and Hopkins as Bligh are credible and nuanced, and you can imagine it's as accurate an account of what really happened as we're ever likely to get. I never saw Mutiny on the Bounty, but I've heard it was a Robin Hood -like swashbuckler with little seriousness paid to the subject matter.
