Bubble Boy

Director: Blair Hayes
Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal, Marley Shelton, Danny Trejo, John Carroll Lynch, Verne Troyer
If you really wanted to see a pre- Donnie Darko Jake Gyllenhaal playing a goofy cross between Marty McFly and Jim Varney of the Ernest movies, here's your chance.

Young Jimmy (Gyllenhaal) is born without any immunities, so lives his life in a bedroom encased in a giant plastic bubble tended by his Christian right mother and silent, hen-pecked father.

When he grows up and spies the beautiful girl next door (Shelton), everything changes in his world when nature takes it course She falls for him too, and when he won't let her inside the bubble, leaves him to marry a sleazebag she doesn't love.

The movie is Jimmy's quest to travel across the country and his adventures at having never been outside his bedroom before, and it spins a bizarre and only partly funny tale of a biker gang, Indian ice cream and curry truck, troupe of circus freaks and a psychotically happy religious cult.

Sloppy and uninspired.
