Little more than an excuse to bring the three photogenic leads together in an action movie with an easy sell. The plot was borrowed/referenced/ripped off/copied for a hundred detective thrillers (and owing to over 20 writers having worked on the script, probably more than one), Diaz, Liu and Barrymore buffed up, dressed up and trained up to be dropped in the middle of it and carry the scenes with their individual shticks.

As an action comedy it was neither the best nor worst of the genre at the time, but a lot more down to earth than the overblown, CG-sozzled, sugar-rush sequel.
