Children of a Lesser God

A classic Hollywood 'issue's movie, but no less watchable for it. It's a heart warming if fairly predictable but the story is made much better by the passionate performances from the emotional Hurt and vulnerably gorgeous Matlin.

A teacher at a school for the deaf (Hurt) is fascinated by a quiet girl who refuses to try and talk (Matlin). Their falling in love is almost incendiary as she becomes the challenge of his career, trying to bring her out of her shell and encourage her to try and speak. Standout acting is the hallmark in an otherwise standard Hollywood tear jerker.
