City of Angels
Year: | 1998 |
Director: | Brad Silberling |
Writer: | Wim Wenders |
Cast: | Nicolas Cage, Meg Ryan, Dennis Franz |
I wanted to like this film more than I did. The idea of angels walking among the living was intriguing, but the execution was slow and pained.
Cage is one such angel who falls in love with a doctor (Ryan) and gives up his heavenly powers to become human again just to be with her. What happens next is the most miserable twist in a piece of entertainment art since Juliet swallowed the poison not knowing Romeo was still alive.
There are some inventive visuals, but not much else.
