I never understood why this was such a massive hit. It was a pretty plain teen comedy with a few updated flourishes (including the marketable lexicon that came with the movie, a la Bill & Ted and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ).

Apparently a loose retelling of Jane Austen's Emma, and perhaps for fans of that work there was something more in it. To me it was just a trio of rich white bimbo kids and their misadventures at high school. Alicia Silverstone dropped right off the Hollywood radar for some reason at what seemed the height of her popularity and hasn't been A list since.
