Year: 1985
Director: Ron Howard
Cast: Wilford Brimley, Don Ameche, Hume Cronyn, Brian Dennehy, Steve Guttenberg, Tahnee Welch, Maureen Stapleton, Jessica Tandy, Barret Oliver
A very Ron Howard movie - and old-style feelgood flick with a thoroughly modern directorial skill with special effects and scripting heft to back it up.

In lesser hands, the story of old age pensioners being offered the chance for immortality by finding aliens would be silly, but everyone involved, including Howard, plays it dead serious, and it works as both a touching human drama and an adventure story. In the hands of not only Howard but actors of the calibre of Cronyn, Ameche and Brimley, it's not to be missed.
