Coyote Ugly

Year: 2000
Director: David McNally
Producer: Jerry Bruckheimer
Cast: Piper Perabo, Adam Garcia, John Goodman, Maria Bello, Tyra Banks, Bridget Moynahan, Melanie Lynskey, LeAnn Rimes
Bruckheimer goes chick flick telling the story of a small town girl who wants to make it in the big city.

Mind you, it's still Bruckheimer, so there's plenty of skimpy outfits, table dancing and sexual tension.

Newest thing in movies Piper Perabo (who went nowhere, most recently seen in the Cheaper By the Dozen movies) plays the daughter who travels to New York to find fame and fortune as a singer and hooks up with a bunch of wild girls who work in a bar, the whole thing turning out to be a sort of Cocktail but with girls (and ironically more testosterone) with a love story running concurrently with Aussie Adam Garcia (who's likewise not gone much further).

I didn't realise at the time it had NZ babe Melanie Lynskey in it, either. I was too busy rolling my eyes at the rock and roll product placement in LeAnn Rimes. In fact, almost all the girls in it have gone on to bigger and better roles except the unfortunate leads.
