It was very disconcerting to see Freddie Prinze Jr and Julia Stiles playing adults - using teen stars in early adult roles (with adult concerns and adult language) causes large parts of the film to not quite gel. Two youngsters meet in college, fall in love, reality sets in and the inevitable fall-apart happens.
As a comedy, some of the characters were ill-defined and you never knew whether to laugh at them or not (and so some of the situations and things said that were intended to be comic went nowhere). But by the time the film was over, I was glad they got together and found love, so something made me care about them, and I hope I'm not so vacuous that it wasn't just the gorgeous Julia Stiles.
