One of those films you fele like you're supposed to say is a classic, one of the best ever made, undisputed genius etc., but which you're almost ashamed to admit had little effect on you.

Two hippie bikers travel cross-country looking for the true America. The moral of the story is that there's no true America but many, from the free-loving hippie commune to the backwater inbreeds who commit the final violent acts.

But it's nothing more than a series of vignettes of American life in the late sixties with such slight engagement by the leads it could have been a documentary.

More interesting for its future stars than for its content.
