Elvira: Mistress of the Dark

Year: 1988
Director: James Signorelli
Cast: Cassandra Peterson, Jef Conaway, Edie McClurg
Elvira wasn't big in Australia when this movie came out so none of us really knew who she was or the brand association that came with the enormous hair, black ballgown or acres of cleavage.

Fortunately the whole film was about Elvira taking the piss out of herself and having fun with the image, so it was far better than it deserved to be. Part schlock comedy, part cult iconography, the plot is long gone and I can't even remember any details apart from the poodle with the horror-inspired haircut, but I do remember it being a camp, enjoyable comedy.
