Flirting With Disaster

Year: 1996
Director: David O Russell
Cast: Ben Stiller, Patricia Arquette, Tea Leoni, Mary Tyler Moore, George Segal, Alan Alda, Lily Tomlin, Josh Brolin, Richard Jenkins
A lot more is delivered from an idea (and a script) that could have gone nowhere. Young married couple (Stiller and Arquette) with a new baby trawl America looking for his natural parents, accompanied by the sexy adoption agency representative (Leoni) unwittingly tempting him. They run into confusion and mayhem at every step, pick up classic gay couple (Jenkins and Brolin) on the way and finally cause his adopted and natural families to collide without ever knowing it. Fantastic casting and a breeze for Tyler Moore, Segal, Alda and Tomlin as neurotic Jews and middle aged drug-growing hippies respectively. Well written with plenty of unexpected twists and pleasantly skewed juts off centre from the typical comedy.
