The Forbidden Kingdom

Year: 2008
Production Co: Casey Silver Productions
Director: Rob Minkoff
Producer: Casey Silver
Writer: John Fusco
Cast: Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Collin Chou
The pairing of Jet Li and Jackie Chan should have been a lot more auspicious than this badly cast kids movie.

Loosely based on A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, an American teen who's friends with a mysterious old Chinese junk shop owner finds himself sent back through time to feudal China, the missing link in an ancient prophecy to use some generic Macguffin (a sword) to right some generic wrong (rightful king frozen in concrete, wrongful villain with iron grip on people, etc).

He finds himself under the care of a drunkard Kung Fu master (Chan) and a stoic monk (Li) who have to train him and bring him before the villain (Chou) to put things to rights.

The long-faced kid is all out of place, the plot is cack-handed and the sentiment is aimed at 13 year olds. the whole plot and most of the characters are borrowed from Chinese pulp mythology, but you won't notice. The fight scenes are as good as can be expected, but it's like Kung Fu porno - you'll want to fast forward through all the rest.
