Get Smart

Year: 2008
Studio: Warner Bros
Director: Peter Segal
Cast: Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway, Dwayne Johnson, Alan Arkin, Terence Stamp, David Koechener, James Caan, Bill Murray, Ken Davitian
If any actor was born to play Maxwell Smart, Steve Carell was. Ironically, he merely highlights how unlike Don Adams he is. Smart wasn't an idiot, he was more just clumsy and unlucky, and while Carell gets the combination right, he's nothing like you remember Adams from the classic series.

As such, while Get Smart is an accomplished Steve Carell movie, it bares little resemblance to what you'd expect from a Maxwell Smart movie.

Crafted as an origin story, Smart is promoted to the position we know him as from that of a lowly security analyst for the top secret agency Control when the identities of the field agents are compromised.

He's teamed up with 99 (Hathaway) going under deep cover to Russia to get to the bottom of a world domination plot by Control's nemesis agency, Kaos.

A few throwaway plotting twists and turns keep the plot rolling along, but it's the laughs you're there fore. And while Carell has a shtick all his own, immortal Adams' lines like 'missed it by that much' just don't sound at home in his mouth.
