The Good Son

Year: 1993
Director: Joseph Ruben
Cast: Macaulay Culkin, Elijah Wood, David Morse
A surprisingly good and spooky thriller about Culkin as a nasty child who's jealousy at his cousin (Wood) moving in with his family will stop at nothing, including murder. Some genuinely scary and thrilling sequences give credibility to an otherwise far fetched premise with pretty good acting by all. If he'd been mature enough at the time, we'd all have thought Culkin was trying to break his John Hughes typecast by taking on 'bad boy' roles (which he does fairly well), and Wood is precocious and cherubic and just grew up so fast! Interesting to see how the careers of both leads have gone.
