It didn't have a strong or clear enough storyline for me to remember any of it, except that it's about those guys who dive to incredible depths for competition. The film follows two of them, one of whom starts a relationship of some sort with an American reporter.
The last scene is of the mysterious lead character diving to an unprecedented depth, being surrounded by dolphins and leaving the safety line (apparently staying down there).
It wasn't until I read about it on the internet years later that it turns out he was part dolphin (or something) ! Moody, good looking, but I don't remember much substance.
