Steven Spielberg looked at his Amblin Entertainment bank account and saw a few dozen million he didn't know what to do with. So he called the gang back together for a good time.
And that's what Gremlins 2 is. More of a party than a movie, borrowing the basic theme of the original and lurching from sleepy town to mecha-terror Manhattan skyscraper.
Gizmo again gets wet, they again get fed, and the rules and monsters are back again in glaring and comic new life.
Some old characters return to flesh out the action, and not once does it take itself seriously, even parodying the one serious scene from the original - Kate remembering that awful Christmas.
Disgusting and gross, funny and silly, played to the straight laced comic hilt by everyone.
