I might appreciate this film noir more now I appreciate the medium of cinema more. When I watched it I was merely a) a kid with blockbuster sensibilities and b) a John Cusack fan.
Coming a long way before his official 'growing up' in films like Con Air, it's the story of a two bit conman (Cusack), his two bit conwoman mother (Huston) and his two bit conwoman girlfriend (Bening).
They all have scams going, and all end up double crossing each other, but none of the end result was very interesting.
