Talk to Her

Year: 2002
Director: Pedro Almodovar
Writer: Pedro Almodovar
Cast: Geraldine Chaplin
It sounds high concept; two men meet at a hospital while their respective lovers are in deep comas from injuries and make friends.

But being an Almodovar film, it goes a lot deeper than that. One guy is estranged from his bullfighter girlfriend, the other is a nurse who takes tender and loving care of a former dance student, and who had found his way into the position because he fell in love with her while she was still up and about.

The two men develop an understanding of each other and we see a real portrait of the people (all four of them, even – ironically – the two who aren't even awake) before a shocking act tears everything apart. Talky and a bit slow but an interesting dramatic idea.
