Heist
Year: | 2001 |
Director: | David Mamet |
Writer: | David Mamet |
Cast: | Gene Hackman, Delroy Lindo, Danny Devito, Sam Rockwell |
A neat, compact little gangster movie with some heavyweight, charismatic performances that give it the extra it needs to lift it above the sum of its parts. Not your usual David Mamet material, either.
Gene Hackman and Delroy Lindo are criminal buddies from way back who want to call it a day. Their cruel overlord (Devito), presses them into one last job before he'll pay them off, sending his creepy nephew (Rockwell) along for the ride.
Together with a cool as ice partner and femme fatale thrown into the mix, the twists come thick and fast, some more surprising than others, but it's an exciting, well written and constructed story.
