High School High
Year: | 1996 |
Studio: | Columbia |
Director: | Hart Boechner |
Producer: | David Zucker |
Writer: | David Zucker |
Cast: | Jon Lovitz, Tia Carrere, Louise Fletcher, Mekhi Phifer |
A Zucker-style spoof comedy, produced by the man himself - or one of them - with directing duties relegated to the relatively unknown Boechner (until you realise he's the weedy Ellis from Die Hard, the executive who's after McClane's wife Holly).
Lovitz is a teacher assigned to a school from every tough, inner-city gangsta-inspired high school from the movies. Like Flying High and Don't be a Menace to South Central, it collects every clichéd plot device, character and narrative element and lampoons them to great comic effect.
In hindsight, it was a the standout of a dying genre, Scary Movie still a few years off and destined to hammer the final nail in the coffin of the spoof comedy.
