The Hills Have Eyes

Year: 2006
Director: Alexandra Aja
Writer: Alexandra Aja
Cast: Kathleen Quinlan, Emilie de Raivin, Aaron Stanford
Yet another classic video nasty is remade by a fanboy who grew up with a grainy video tape copy.

I'm making assumptions there - I've never seen the original, and by all accounts it's neither the best nor worst of 80s horror.

Just like Marcus Nispel's Texas Chainsaw Massacre did a beautiful job conveying the searing farmland heat, cloying smell of blood and filthy water in dirty basements, Aja transports you to the hot and dusty wasteland of the desert heart of America very effectively.

The family has just the right amount of tension, personalities and other issues that make them realistic, and when the freaks descend, it's for a very gory good time.
