Life or Something Like It

Year: 2002
Director: Steven Herek
Cast: Angelina Jolie, Edward Burns, Tony Shaloub
Surprisingly good for a Hollywood studio effort. As paper thin a premise as always, but given added weight by Angelina Jolie's star quality and some pretty deft camerawork that highlights her distinctive and considerable beauty.

An overly ambitious TV reporter who's given up everything in pursuit of news reporting stardom, is told by a local hobo some consider a prophet that she has a week to live.

Plot-wise, it descend into a very easily digestible 'learn what's really important in life' parable, but the story flows along smoothly and does engage you, the dialogue and performances are all top notch (apart from the bumbling, puppy-dog eyed Burns) and some characterisations and the relationships between them turn out to be a nice surprise instead of all Hollywood sweetness and light.

A pretty mature and serious treatment given to a tired old moral.
