Little Women

Year: 1994
Studio: Columbia
Director: Gillian Armstrong
Writer: Louise May Alcott
Cast: Susan Sarandon, Winona Ryder, Trini Alvarado, Christian Bale, Gabriel Byrne, Samantha Mathis, Kirsten Dunst, Eric Stoltz
Winona Ryder and Susan Sarandon lead the all-star cast of what must be the nine thousandth adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's famous book, but one has to ask oneself - why?

Maybe director Gillian Armstrong simply wanted to bring the tale of the March sisters' rocky coming of age to the screen for a generation of moviegoers who hadn't experienced it before.

Trouble is, those who'd be interested in it were all way over the hill compared to traditional Hollywood target audiences and would have seen any of the dozen or so other versions.

It didn't stop it raking in a hundred million though, and I remember quite enjoying it. Maybe you don't have to be such a big girl.
