Mercury Rising

Year: 1998
Director: Harold Becker
Cast: Bruce Willis, Alec Baldwin, Miko Hughes
Part action, part conspiracy paranoia thriller, it tries too hard or not enough and either way doesn't quite work. Giving Bruce Willis' pat action hero persona care of a disabled kid doesn't change that persona, and Alec Baldwin somehow isn't menacing or mobile enough to chill us with terror. The remorseless assassin was the most effective part of the film, but everything else was a case of shake the plot pieces, throw them on a table and slot them together to make a movie.
