Meteor

Year: 1979
Director: Ronald Neame
Cast: Sean Connery, Natalie Wood, Trevor Howard
As much a political statement on the state of the cold war as a disaster movie, with scientist Connery having as hard a time getting Russia and America to work together as devising a way to destroy the incoming threat from space. Howard's stone-faced utterances warning of every new imminent catastrophe ('We've picked up another splinter... a big one') are chilling, Wood's performance and character stood out so little I can't even remember her in it. The effects betray the movie's release date, but an entertaining end-of-the-world thriller.
