The Mosquito Coast

Year: 1986
Director: Peter Weir
Writer: Paul Schrader
Cast: Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, River Phoenix, Martha Plimpton
An American 'utopi-ist' and anti-American (a refreshing enough character to see on the screen) moves his family to Central America from one place to another as each paradise falls apart to the forces of the humanity he is trying to escape from and nature itself. Told through the eyes of the eldest son (Phoenix) who sees his father as a flawed tower of strength while trying to keep things together among his siblings while their father leads them deeper into hell. A poignant and tragic figure is played well by Ford.
