Mr Holland’s Opus

Year: 1995
Director: Stephen Herek
Cast: Richard Dreyfuss, Glenne Headley, William H Macy, Olympia Dukakis
A feelgood movie about how you never know where your choices will take you. The premise is simple; a young composer takes a teaching job so he and his wife can get ahead a little, just for four years. Thirty years later when he retires from teaching, he's a much loved institution among present and former students.

Richrd Dreyfuss had been quiet all through the 1980's, and when he appeared in anything it was either straight to video comedy like Stakeout or TV-style drama like this one. Nice, satisfying, nothing too nasty or sad, just a lot of love with a good measure of what a teacher is supposed to be thrown in.
