What's not to love about the Muppets? If you were born between 1970 and 1980 I defy you not to love the Muppets, and although Michael Caine's looked bloody silly in plenty of his movies, he's never been sweeter as the mean old Scrooge who finds the Christmas spirit amongst the lovable creatures.

Kermit is Bob Cratchit, Robin the tiny, heartbreakingly frail Tiny Tim, and Miss Piggy hilarious as Mrs Cratchit with motherly love and sarcastic comments.

In fact, that's what the Muppets to so well. Searching the text for scenes in which to insert characters like Dr Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker, Rizzo the Rat and Sam the Eagle must surely be the most fun you can have as a scriptwriter.

Weaving their signature comedy and personalities through a classic story like A Christmas Carol was a masterstroke of casting, and if you're not that familiar with Dickens' heartwarming fable, there are far worse places to familiarise yourself with it. What's more, you'll laugh until you cry too.
