An attempt at timeless comedy and a somewhat satire of the superhero genre that was at the time just kicking into high gear, but a misguided effort as it was neither satirical nor particularly funny that I remember.

A group of inept wannabe superheroes with bizarre 'powers' (a shovel, fork throwing, a bad temper) have to save the day when the real superhero, Captain Amazing, is kidnapped by the bad guy. They then have to overcome reluctance by everyone around them that they can do the job to come through, and gain their own self-respect as superheros in the process.

From the cult following I gather it's now one of those movies a lot of film geeks love to quote, but I remember the story being a mess and the whole thing falling pretty flat.
