On Golden Pond

A little bit picture-perfect setting gives this otherwise sweet and endearing drama an otherworldy quality in this study of relationships and aging. Fonda Sr is great in his last major role, and Hepburn gives the performance all she has left even though you can see she's getting frail. The relationships are interesting all round, but the sweetness is told by Hepburn and her love for her husband no matter what a grumpy old man he's become. The age barrier between he and the grandson is played for laughs at times but a fairly reasonable subplot.
