Poison Ivy

Year: 1992
Production Co: MG Entertainment
Director: Katt Shea Ruben
Cast: Sarah Gilbert, Drew Barrymore, Tom Skerritt, Cheryl Ladd, Leonardo Di Caprio
Back when Sarah Gilbert was riding high on the back of Roseanne's success and Drew Barrymore was still trading on her bad girl persona, they did this faintly sleazy erotic thriller about a beautiful but very naughty girl who schemes her way into the inner sanctum of a wealthy family by pushing the right buttons on all involved.

It comes across as a trashy B movie, a teen Fatal Attraction by way of Basic Instinct, but there are some nuanced performances and deft handling of social matters in everything from sexual desire to growing up on show if you care to stick with the movie and look deep enough.

You'll find yourself wondering if it wants to be the high-minded erotic drama it seems to be dressed as, or a more measured exploitation flick. The answer is somewhere in the middle, and it'll stick with you longer than you expect.
