This is one of the few films (Donnie Darko, Taxi Driver) for which even whispering among cinephile circles that you didn't like it is enough to get you dismissed as a philistine. Okay it had a few laughs - I can't remember them - but a comic classic? I laughed more during The Love Guru.

It's a fairy story of reclaiming love among a host of otherworldly characters and experiences (and here's where I expected to write about unicorns and elves, but the only one I can remember is Andre the Giant.

Maybe there are some funny lines that I've simply blocked out of my memory after feeling so cheated after hearing for so many years what a classic this is. And with a highly anticipated 25th anniversary DVD about to be released, I know I'm in a minority.
